Shari Jenkins Smith

“History is fascinating. It’s so worth preserving,” says Shari Jenkins Schmit.
For years, she’s collected historical treasures: artifacts, buttons, pamphlets, maps, and, most often, vintage photographs. In 2008, she learned to restore these photos and has since developed her own approach to historic preservation—through her mixed media art.
She began her art career with “The Bookmark Card,” and her designs became so popular that Leanin’ Tree purchased her company in 2014. In 2019, over one million of Shari’s cards were sold.
“I love that people are sharing my art,” she beams.
In recent years, Shari has branched out into mixed media fine art. Her designs are professionally printed on canvas, gallery wrapped, and embellished with acrylics and pastels.
She also has her own line through Moda Fabrics, “the Lipstick Cowgirl by Shari Schmit,” which will be available at local retailers in June 2021. The quality and designs make this line a must-have for Montana quilters.
“There are so many components of local history in my designs,” says Shari. “It’s a Montana line for sure.”
