Innovation is a unique brand of creativity. It’s recognizing what’s missing—in an industry, a market, a community—and then developing a way to fill that void.
In Augusta, Pretty Prairie Business Center is certainly innovative. Established in 2020 by Suzi Taylor, this multi-purpose center serves the area as an office building, meeting space, small event center, and more.
Currently, Taylor is in the process of obtaining a license to open Blue Pine Wine, a wine shop/tasting room.
She also plans to offer a variety of events, including food and wine pairings, evening classes like “Sip n Paint,” cake decorating, and wine glass etching.
“There were a lot of things over the years that I wished Augusta had, but weren’t feasible for various reasons,” explains Taylor, who grew up in town. “I wanted to provide a place where people could meet with clients or do music lessons or have private parties—anything the community could use it for.”
As a lawyer, Taylor has opened her general practice law firm in Pretty Prairie, and there is room for other locals to do business as well. Pretty Prairie’s conference room can be rented (by the day or half day), and includes tables, chairs, office equipment, a kitchen, and a bathroom. These accommodations make it the perfect venue for small events as well.
Taylor has spent a great deal of energy renovating the Main Street building, hoping that it adds to Augusta’s growing popularity as a “destination town.”
“We have four restaurants, four bars, a motel, another motel planned to open in June, an RV park, an upscale gift/espresso shop, an incredible antique store, wonderful shops, the mountains… This doesn’t compete with businesses that are here. It provides something new,” Taylor explains.
Pretty Prairie Business Center is named for a mountain meadow near town. Taylor wants this to be something that locals take pride in and enjoy.
